I’m back in San Francisco after a busy week in Las Vegas, where my colleague Jon Victor and I spent days talking to Google Cloud customers about the difference between generative artificial intelligence hype and reality
At one point during the conference, I was sitting at a table in a chilly Mandalay Bay conference room when I heard a Google Cloud executive utter an all-too-familiar phrase: “We don’t believe one model will rule them all.”
Talk about déjà vu! Executives from Amazon Web Services were shouting that same sentiment last year from the rooftops of their own cloud conference, re:Invent, which also took place in Las Vegas, further down the strip at The Venetian hotel. (Sidenote: The next time you hear someone say there won’t be one model to rule them all, I’d challenge you to ask them: “Who actually believes there will be one model to rule them all?”)
