A Europe fit for the digital age – European Union
Digital technology is changing people’s lives. The EU’s digital strategy aims to make this transformation work for people and businesses, while helping to achieve its target of a climate-neutral Europe by 2050.
The Commission is determined to make this Europe’s “Digital Decade”. Europe must now strengthen its digital sovereignty and set standards, rather than following those of others – with a clear focus on data, technology, and infrastructure.
21 February 2024 – The Commission has set out several actions to help ensure that the EU meets its 2030 digital infrastructure targets. Fast, secure, and widespread connectivity is crucial if we are to deploy the technologies that will bring us into tomorrow’s world. The proposed actions focus on fostering innovation; meeting the full potential of the digital single market for telecoms, and reducing security risks of critical infrastructures, such as submarine cables. The actions put forward aim to start a discussion on concrete proposalswith stakeholders, Member States and like-minded partners on how to shape future EU policies.
