PrismHR Appoints Dr. Sami Mian Chief AI Officer to Advance HR Technology Innovation – citybiz

PrismHR, a Chandler, Arizona-based provider of human resources technology for outsourcing service providers, has appointed Sami Mian, Ph.D., as Chief AI Officer, expanding his leadership responsibilities as the company accelerates artificial intelligence development across its software platform.
In the role, Mian will oversee PrismHR’s AI strategy, governance, education and enterprise deployment, including initiatives to integrate intelligent capabilities into the company’s HR, payroll, benefits and workforce management solutions.
Mian joined PrismHR in 2024 and most recently served as Executive Vice President of Innovation & AI and Distinguished Engineer.
Over the past 18 months, he has led the development of the company’s AI infrastructure, introduced new AI capabilities and helped establish governance practices for deploying the technology across its operations and products.
“AI is becoming an essential part of how HR service providers operate, serve their clients, and prepare for what comes next,” said Michael DeLessio, President of PrismHR.
DeLessio said Mian’s technical background and experience implementing AI systems will help the company expand automation while maintaining appropriate safeguards for customers and sensitive information.
Mian brings more than a decade of experience developing and scaling AI technologies.
Before joining PrismHR, he held research and development leadership roles at Amazon Robotics, Microsoft Research and NASA.
His background also includes co-founding and advising technology startups in artificial intelligence, robotics, medical technology, energy and autonomous systems.
Mian has co-authored more than 20 U.S. and international patents and publications.
He also holds a teaching appointment at Arizona State University, where he contributes to graduate AI programs and mentors doctoral students.
In addition, Mian serves on several advisory boards, including Professional Administrative Co-Employers (PACE), advising organizations on AI policy, strategy, governance and innovation.
His appointment follows PrismHR’s introduction of Prism Intelligence, an AI-powered technology layer integrated into the company’s platform and user experience.
Prism Intelligence is designed to help HR service providers automate administrative processes, improve customer interactions and access insights that support business decisions.
The company serves Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs), Administrative Service Organizations (ASOs), payroll service providers and other businesses delivering outsourced HR services.
These organizations manage large volumes of employee, payroll and benefits information, making data security and operational reliability important considerations when adopting AI.
Under Mian’s leadership, PrismHR has established a cross-departmental AI Governance Committee and implemented risk controls aligned with the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s AI Risk Management Framework.
The company has also deployed an enterprise AI policy engine intended to reduce sensitive data exposure and limit reliance on public AI platforms.
Its product development initiatives include AI-powered virtual assistants, automated client intake workflows and tools that generate insights from customer behavior.
PrismHR is also applying AI to customer support operations, including automated request classification and routing to improve response efficiency.
Internally, the company has introduced a three-tier AI training program and an AI Champions network to help employees adopt the technology consistently and responsibly.
These initiatives are intended to support the company’s broader strategy of embedding AI into routine HR service workflows rather than offering it solely as a standalone feature.
“I’m honored to continue leading PrismHR’s AI vision,” Mian said.
He noted that the company has established a scalable AI foundation and plans to expand responsible AI adoption across its enterprise and customer-facing products.
As Chief AI Officer, Mian will continue developing AI capabilities intended to reduce administrative workloads, improve decision-making and support growth for HR outsourcing providers.
PrismHR provides software supporting human resources administration, payroll processing, benefits management, regulatory compliance, onboarding and employee experience.
Its technology serves HR outsourcing organizations responsible for millions of worksite employees across the United States.
The appointment formalizes Mian’s leadership of PrismHR’s AI initiatives as the company expands Prism Intelligence and develops additional automation capabilities for its customers.
PrismHR said its focus remains on combining AI innovation with governance, data protection and practical business applications across the HR technology ecosystem.
