UVA launches new masters degree program, focusing on change management – WVIR

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The University of Virginia has introduced a new Master of Change degree through its School of Continuing and Professional Studies. The program is 100% online and open to professionals ranging from entry level to senior level.
Its purpose is to prepare students for advanced decision making.
The degree consists of 10 courses and 30 credit hours. Students have between one and five years to complete the program.
Kai Degner, senior director of certificate programs at UVA’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, said the curriculum is designed to be flexible.
“People can take the six required classes and then customize their degree with four electives from areas like project management or human resources or public administration,” Degner said.
He says the degree addresses a growing need in the workforce.
“The change management skill set is becoming more sought after in some of the biggest employers in the world, really.”
He added that the program is intended to meet the moment for working professionals.
“We really feel like this is the right degree for the right time, with all the complexity and disruption people are facing,” Degner said. “We know that professionals want to have the skills.”
The first round of applications is due November 1. The inaugural class begins in January.
