Wellstar agrees to $4 million settlement over patient privacy lawsuit – WRDW

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Wellstar Health System has agreed to a more than $4 million class-action lawsuit settlement over patient privacy.
The lawsuit alleged Wellstar shared patients’ health information with third parties, including Meta and Google.
Some of the structure can be saved after a fire struck an Augusta sober-living home, but rebuilding will likely deplete resources.
Wellstar said the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing.
A judge still needs to sign off on the agreement.
Meanwhile, Wellstar is eliminating 761 positions — about 2% of its more than 35,000 employees — and has declined to say how many of those jobs are in Augusta.
The nonprofit health provider said the cuts follow a “comprehensive review” of its operations.
