Spectrum class action alleges over 40M customer records exposed in data breach – Class Action Lawsuits

A new class action lawsuit accuses Charter Communications of failing to properly secure and safeguard the personally identifiable information of Spectrum customers and employees.
Plaintiff Mariah Kent filed the class action complaint against Charter Communications on June 1 in Connecticut federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.
Kent claims Spectrum failed to comply with industry standards to protect information systems that contain and/or are utilized to transfer PII, including full names, email addresses, physical addresses, telephone numbers, account plan information and customer support ticket details.
According to the Spectrum class action lawsuit, the attack began around April 1, 2026, when the ShinyHunters group allegedly used a voice phishing scam to obtain an employee’s Microsoft Entra login credentials and gain access to the company’s Salesforce environment.
The lawsuit alleges the Spectrum data breach resulted from the company’s failure to maintain reasonable cybersecurity measures, including adequate employee training and safeguards against social engineering attacks.
As a result of the data breach, Kent claims more than 40 million customer records were compromised, including certain customer proprietary network information, such as service usage and call history data.
Kent wants to represent anyone residing in the United States and its territories whose PII was accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized party as a result of the Spectrum data breach.
She demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of damages for herself and all class members.
Meanwhile, Spectrum is facing allegations that it promised customers fixed monthly rates for internet and TV services during one- or two-year promotional periods, then increased those prices before the promotional terms ended.
If you are a current or former Spectrum residential internet or TV customer who experienced unexpected price increases, you may be able to pursue compensation for those overcharges

The plaintiff is represented by Joseph P. Guglielmo of Scott+Scott Attorneys at Law LLP, Linda P. Nussbaum of Nussbaum Law Group P.C. and Michael E. Criden and Lindsey C. Grossman of Criden & Love P.A.
The Spectrum data breach class action lawsuit is Kent v. Charter Communications Inc., Case No. 3:26-cv-00850, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.
