Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita’s Unclaimed Property Division has returned more than $56 million to rightful owners as of May 18, putting the state on track to potentially break last year’s record.
The division returned $88 million in 2025, its largest sum to date.
“Hoosiers throw around a lot of racing metaphors during the month of May,” Rokita said. “Well, this could be a new track record for our Unclaimed Property Division.”
Nearly $1 billion remains unclaimed statewide.
Hoosiers can search their names or loved ones’ names at IndianaUnclaimed.gov to see if they have money waiting.
Unclaimed property includes unclaimed wages or commissions, money orders, safe deposit box contents, savings and checking accounts, refunds and overpayments such as credit card balances and cell phone bills.
The division conducts outreach efforts to locate rightful owners or heirs once property is in its custody.
People and businesses have 25 years to claim money once it’s reported to the division.
