Salpointe Catholic, Canyon del Oro bring 2 more state softball titles home to Tucson – Arizona Daily Star

Championship trophies are piling up in Tucson after two more local high school softball teams secured state titles on Monday.
No. 1 Salpointe Catholic defeated No. 2 Mica Mountain, 4-2, in the 4A state championship game Monday evening at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium in Tucson.
The win is the Lancers’ ninth state softball championship in program history. Salpointe Catholic has won four of those state titles in the last five years.
Senior pitcher Macee Jackson took home the 4A MVP title after striking out eight during Monday’s game and helping the Lancers secure the win. 
Jackson has now completed her high school softball career with 482 strikeouts and a 0.81 ERA.
Throughout the game, eight of 10 Lancers in the starting lineup recorded hits. The winning four runs were tacked on by sophomore Catherine Sztan, junior Kenzi Daley and seniors Soli Ramos and Alyssa Montano.

Salpointe Catholic finished its season with an overall 27-4 record, including going undefeated (8-0) in region play, according to MaxPreps.
Earlier on Monday, No. 4 Canyon del Oro took home the 5A state softball championship after upsetting the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Mountain View Marana, 4-3, at Grand Canyon University.
The victory marked CDO’s 10th softball championship and 16th appearance in program history.
The last time the Dorados won a state softball title was in 2017. 
CDO freshman pitcher Savanna Mares was named the 5A MVP following the game. Mares completed the season with a 21-5 record and a 1.21 ERA.
This season, the Dorados went an overall 29-6, including winning eight consecutive games to end the season, according to MaxPreps.
Last week, two other Southern Arizona high school softball teams became state champions
Tanque Verde secured the 3A state title, while Willcox took home the 2A title.
