Coupang reports data breach affecting 4,500 customers – 매일경제
Coupang has reported a data breach that exposed personal information belonging to about 4,500 customers, including names and phone numbers, to unauthorized third parties.
The e-commerce giant said on Thursday that it confirmed on Nov. 18 that an unidentified actor had accessed customer delivery details — such as names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, and the five most recent order records — through unauthorized access.
The South Korean online retailer emphasized that no payment information was compromised and that its internal systems and network showed no signs of intrusion. “Once the activity was detected, we immediately took all necessary response measures and have since strengthened our monitoring efforts,” a company spokesperson said.
The company has reported the incident, including its findings and timeline, to the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and the Personal Information Protection Commission.
Coupang said it has already notified all affected customers individually and offered an apology. “We sincerely apologize for causing concern to our customers,” the spokesperson said. “We will continue to make every effort to protect customer information.”
