The Nature Conservancy names interim CIO – Pensions & Investments

Jennifer Kilpela
Jennifer Kilpela has been named the interim chief investment officer of The Nature Conversancy, a spokesperson confirmed in an email May 22.
She will be responsible for overseeing the $4 billion mission-aligned endowment of the environmental nonprofit organization, which is based in Arlington, Va.
Kilpela will take over the responsibilities of Bola Olusanya, who joined The Nature Conservancy in 2020 as its inaugural vice president and CIO.
Olusanya left for the Chicago-based John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, where he will serve as the new vice president and CIO overseeing its $9 billion investment portfolio starting June 17.
Kilpela joined The Nature Conservancy in January as the head of strategic investments. Her responsibilities included overseeing strategic initiatives, special projects, collaboration and communications for the investment office.
She previously worked as a board member of the nonprofit Colorado Headwaters Land Trust, which had close to $3 million in assets as of Dec. 31, 2023, according to tax filings.
She was also a managing director at the consulting firm Monticello Associates, as well as a senior investment analyst for the now-$2.6 billion endowment George Washington University, Washington.
