DPWH installs solar-powered streetlights in uptown Cagayan de Oro – Philippine Information Agency
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways – Cagayan de Oro 1st District Engineering Office (DPWH-CDO 1st DEO) will begin installing solar-powered streetlights starting this May 2025 along the CDO-Airport-Bukidnon Road, specifically on Masterson Avenue in Barangay Upper Carmen.
The project includes the installation of 70-meter solar-powered streetlights and the construction of a center island from KarrJackson Automotive Shop-Uptown to Wilcon Depot. It aims to improve nighttime visibility and reduce accidents using renewable energy.
A coordination meeting was held on April 24, led by District Engineer Ana Lee M. Manzano, with participation from representatives of the Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD), Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), Cebu Landmasters Incorporated (CLI), and Xavier University Campus of the Future (XUCOF). Stakeholders committed to sharing responsibilities in public information dissemination and traffic management during the implementation phase.
The project supports the broader objectives of “Bagong Pilipinas” by integrating energy-efficient infrastructure into urban development. Once completed, it is expected to contribute to safer and more orderly transportation along one of the city’s key roads. (DPWH-CDO 1st DEO/PIA-10)
The Philippine Information Agency is the grassroots communications arm of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines. It aims to provide for the free flow of accurate, timely, and relevant information to assist Filipinos in decision making and help them identify opportunities to improve their quality of life. The PIA’s information network is present in the country’s 16 regions with its 78 provincial information centers.
