Laborers foil suicide attempt in CdO – Daily Tribune
According to a police report, the victim was seen by laborers loitering near the bridge late Sunday afternoon looking depressed and restless.
Upon reaching the middle portion, the victim reportedly removed his shoes and jumped into the river apparently to commit suicide for still unknown reasons.
Laborers who were watching near the scene immediately responded, swam into the river to retrieve and pull the victim to the river bank for safety.
Investigation revealed that the man was jobless and a resident of Zamboanga City suffering from depression that prompted him to attempt to jump into the river.
Responding rescue workers rushed the victim in a nearby hospital for treatment and later on was turned over to the city social services department for processing and assessment.
The victim will undergo counselling and psychological evaluation and treatment.
