Ulrich Investment Consultants Files Notice of October 2024 Data Breach – JD Supra

On February 28, 2025, Ulrich Consulting & Investment Group, LLC d/b/a Ulrich Investment Consultants (“Ulrich”) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Montana after discovering that an employee’s email account was subject to unauthorized access. In this notice, Ulrich explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information. Upon completing its investigation, Ulrich began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

The Ulrich Investment Consultants data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Ulrich’s filing with the Attorney General of Montana provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on October 31, 2024, Ulrich identified suspicious activity within an employee’s email account. In response, Ulrich secured the account and then brought on a team of outside cybersecurity specialists to assist with the company’s investigation.
Through this investigation, Ulrich confirmed that the employee’s email account had been compromised and was indeed subject to unauthorized access. It was later determined that various emails and attachments in the email account contained confidential information belonging to certain individuals.
After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Ulrich Investment Consultants reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Ulrich completed this process on February 24, 2025.
On February 28, 2025, Ulrich Investment Consultants sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. While the company’s data breach letter on the Montana Attorney General’s website doesn’t mention what information was leaked, these personalized letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
