October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and Emporia State University is getting the word out through a number of public events.
ESU’s Cybersecurity Research and Outreach Center, or CyROC, is donating two computers to the Emporia Senior Center as part of an event this upcoming Friday. ESU’s cybersecurity program will also have information directly involving seniors.
On Oct. 23, CyROC is holding a Women in Tehcnology Day at the Sauder Alumni Center. The program will feature individual presentations, panel discussions and networking time for college students and professionals considering careers in technology.
CyROC Director Leticia Rust says cyber crime is now extremely lucrative.
These activities follow the CyROC CyberCon 2.0 event last week, which brought over 200 high school students to campus for a range of hands-on activities.
Rust says the expansion of cyber crime efforts means a rapid expansion in cybersecurity careers in areas like networks, systems, cloud security, software development, cyber defense and information security.
