Qantas Reaches Settlement in Class Action Over COVID-19 Flight Credits
Qantas Airways has reached a settlement in a class action lawsuit regarding flight credits issued during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Subject to approval by the Federal Court of Australia, Qantas Airways has agreed to pay 105 million Australian dollars without admitting liability. The settlement payment is expected to be made in the first half of fiscal year 2027, and provisions for it have already been recorded.
The class action had been filed against Qantas Airways in August 2023. It alleged that, for flights cancelled by Qantas Airways between January 2020 and January 2022, the airline breached its contractual obligations concerning refunds. In August 2023, Qantas Airways removed the expiry date on flight credits and introduced measures that allow customers to request cash refunds indefinitely.
