Management change at Frankfurt Cargo Services in April 2026 – Aviation.Direct
The designated Managing Director, Thomas Schürmann, has over 20 years of experience in international logistics management. In his most recent role at Etihad Airways, he coordinated cargo operations at more than 80 international locations. Before moving to the United Arab Emirates, he worked for companies including Düsseldorf Airport Cargo GmbH. This combination of experience with an international airline and expertise in ground handling is considered a crucial advantage in the industry for the further development of FCS at its Frankfurt location, Europe’s largest air freight hub.
The strategic realignment is taking place against the backdrop of a changing market environment in air freight logistics. By separating the operational management of FCS and strategically expanding WFS services in Frankfurt, the SATS Group aims to secure its market share in the area of specialized air freight solutions. While Schürmann will focus on operational efficiency and customer orientation at FCS, Wagner’s new role at WFS aims to deepen the group’s global network at Frankfurt Airport. Experts see this as a response to increasing competitive pressure from automated handling processes and the demands of global e-commerce.
The SATS Group, which acquired Worldwide Flight Services in 2023, is strengthening its presence on the European continent with this appointment. Frankfurt Cargo Services handles several hundred thousand tons of freight annually and provides services to numerous international airlines. By appointing an experienced manager like Schürmann, the company is focusing on operational stability while simultaneously advancing its integration into the parent company’s global network. The handover of operations is planned for the beginning of the second quarter.
