Jena Zangs, University of St. Thomas Chief Data & AI Officer
The University of St. Thomas has elevated Jena Zang to Chief Data & AI Officer, according to her LinkedIn update. Zang leads the development and execution of the university-wide data, analytics, and AI strategy, with a focus on trust, governance, and real-world impact across academic, operational, and administrative functions. She works closely with colleagues, students, and partners to advance ethical, purpose-driven AI initiatives in higher education.
Zang brings more than 15 years of experience in data science, artificial intelligence, analytics, data management, and data infrastructure. Prior to assuming her current role, she served as Chief Data & Analytics Officer and Associate Vice President of Data, Analytics & CRM at the University of St. Thomas, where she helped drive institution-wide data and analytics strategy and supported digital transformation efforts.
In addition to her executive role, Zang is a Steering Committee Member and AI Research & Development Co-Lead for the Institute for AI for the Common Good at the University of St. Thomas, where she focuses on responsible and ethical AI research and development.
Her career at the university spans more than a decade and includes leadership roles across institutional data, analytics, governance, and advancement systems. Throughout her tenure, her work has centered on strengthening data foundations, advancing responsible AI practices, and translating emerging technologies into outcomes that enhance student experiences and improve how the university serves its communities.
“This role isn’t about chasing AI, it’s about grounding us in how we move forward together, with purpose, care, and confidence,” Zang wrote on LinkedIn. “I’m deeply grateful for the trust placed in me to help lead this work, alongside colleagues, students, and partners who are shaping what ethical, purpose-driven AI can look like in higher education.”
