Colorado governor mentions rising cost of living, artificial intelligence and more in final State of the State address – KKTV

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Governor Jared Polis gave his eighth and final State of the State address Thursday, touching on a wide range of topics such as increasing costs of living in Colorado to international affairs.
“Folks who tell us that the high cost of housing makes it simply harder to live in our beautiful, incredible state of Colorado,” Gov. Polis said. He said proposition 123, a measure voters approved in 2022, has led to 10,000 new affordable housing units being built across the state.
Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade signed a joint letter with the Denver and Aurora mayors, asking the governor and Colorado lawmakers protect that program.
“Cities must retain the ability to implement solutions that are responsive to individual community concerns with the allocations approved by the voters for their intended use,” the letter reads. “We ask that legislature refrain from redistributing funding that has been approved through the ballot for specific community purposes.”
The letter also asked Colorado lawmakers to address artificial intelligence legislation, specifically asking they reform a law titled Consumer Protections for Artificial Intelligence which is set to take effect this June.
“Without reform, the law risks slowing innovation and investment, driving jobs out of Colorado, and imposing millions of dollars in implementation costs at a time of serious budget constraints,” the letter reads.
In Thursday’s State of the State Address, Gov. Polis said, “Today, we’re called upon to ensure Colorado remains a leading state for artificial intelligence, for consumers, for businesses of all sizes. And now is the time to get together in a way that drives innovation and, of course, protects our fellow Coloradans.”
The governor did not directly address the law referred to in the mayors’ letter when speaking on AI.
