The FTC sent Zelle payments to CafePress users who filed a valid claim on time but who did not cash a previous check or PayPal payment sent in September 2024.
The settlement resolved claims CafePress, in a major data breach, failed to use reasonable data security measures and misled its users about its data security practices.
CafePress users also claimed the company failed to share important information about the data breach with them after it occurred.
The FTC previously sent more than $347,000 in checks and PayPal payments. Users who now receive a Zelle payment will have it deposited directly into their bank account, with a note about the settlement.
The FTC sent 168,179 checks totaling more than $6.9 million to eligible individuals who paid CarShield for a vehicle service contract between September 2019 and September 2024, and who had their claim denied.
The settlement resolved claims CarShield, by way of placed ads and telemarketing calls, was deceptive and misleading by promising consumers “you’ll never pay for expensive car repairs again.”
The FTC argued that, in spite of CarShield’s alleged promise, numerous customers found that many repairs were not, in fact, “covered.”
Consumers who receive a settlement check are asked to cash it within 90 days.
The FTC sent more than 1.2 million payments totaling more than $27.6 million to consumers who bought personal care and other products from a group of companies including Botanical Farms, Bliss Brands, Optimal MaxKeto, Supreme CBD and Truly Keto.
The refunds come after the FTC argued the companies misled consumers with ads promising “free” or low fee personal care products that purported to promote weight loss, clear skin, pain relief and more.
The FTC claimed that, despite the alleged promises, the companies charged their customers more than the advertised prices, charged them for products they didn’t buy, or enrolled them in auto-renewing subscription plans without their consent.
Consumers who receive a check are asked to cash it within 90 days, while those who receive a PayPal payment are asked to accept it within 30 days.
The FTC sent more than 103,000 payments totaling nearly $15.3 million to consumers who purchased antivirus software from Avast and who filed a claim on time.
The settlement resolved claims Avast collected and sold users’ information to third parties without consent.
Consumers who receive a check are asked to cash it within 90 days, while those who receive a PayPal payment are asked to accept it within 30 days.
Individuals who receive a Zell payment will have it directly deposited into their bank account with a note about the settlement.
