Cyber attack causes data exposure, loss of emergency warnings in Jackson County – KFVS12

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) – A cyber attack on the emergency warning service used by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office might have exposed phone numbers and passwords of users.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office uses CodeRED to issue mass notifications like weather alerts.
The department posted a letter from CodeRED’s Managing Director to social media.
The letter warns that the cyber attack targeted the OnSolve CodeRED platform. Hackers were able to remove data, but that data has not been published online, yet.
The data could contain the names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and passwords used to create profiles for alerts.
If users use the same passwords for other accounts, those passwords should be changed immediately.
The city of O’Fallon, Missouri, issued a similar warning to CodeRED users in their jurisdiction.
