'Historic' first digital health strategy opens for public consultation – Times of Malta
Malta’s first digital health and health data strategy has been opened for public consultation marking a “historic step in the transformation” of the country’s health sector.
Health Minister Joe Etienne Abela said the strategy set out a clear vision for patient-centred health system that is digitally powered and driven by innovation and artificial intelligence.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Abela said the strategy focused on three main pillars namely data, digital transformation and AI, with the aim of improving care, simplifying operations and accelerating technological progress.
He added that the strategy has several key objectives to strengthen people’s experience through digital solutions by harnessing AI to improve clinical decision-making, enhancing digital tools for health professionals, ensuring continuity of care through connected systems, and improving public health through advanced technology.
The strategy includes 28 key actions intended to achieve these objectives. These include expanding the myHealth portal; designing a national platform for ePrescriptions and eDispensing; strengthening telemedicine services; introducing a single Electronic Patient Records system across all national health facilities; creating a national Electronic Health Records platform with secure data exchange; and increasing participation in European health networks.
