Republicans are hoping Elon Musk will help fund their midterm campaigns after his reunion with Donald Trump.
Mike Johnson, the Republican House speaker, was excited to see the US president and Mr Musk sitting side by side at Charlie Kirk’s funeral over the weekend, Politico reported.
He is said to be optimistic Mr Musk will financially back those facing elections next year.
Other conservative politicians in the House privately expressed “similar hopes”.
“We need him engaged, ideally tomorrow,” one anonymous Republican told the outlet.
The US president has reportedly assured both House and Senate Republicans he will dig into his own reserves, which he claims is more than half a billion dollars, to defend the Republican Party’s slim majorities in both chambers of Congress next year.
The slim majority of just six votes means just a few rebels can derail Mr Trump’s ability to pass legislation through the House.
Mr Musk is thought to have donated millions of dollars to the Republican cause before the 2024 presidential election.
The bulk of his spending came from his own America political action committee (PAC), to which he contributed $239 million (£178 million).
Mr Musk served as an adviser to the US president and the head of his Department for Government Efficiency (Doge), until their falling out in June.
The relationship soured after Mr Musk criticised Mr Trump’s flagship spending bill, describing it as a “disgusting abomination”.
Mr Musk inflamed tensions by claiming in a now-deleted post on X that Mr Trump was named in the so-called “Epstein files”, an apparent collection of documents pertaining to the case of Jeffrey Epstein, the late paedophile financier.
However, the pair were seen shaking hands and chatting at Charlie Kirk’s memorial on Sunday.
Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative influencer, was shot in the neck while addressing a crowd of students at Utah Valley University on Sept 10.
In the wake of Kirk’s killing, Mr Musk posted on his X platform: “He was showing people light. And he was killed by the dark.”
