GameStop customers may be owed cash or credit: Here’s how to claim it – Democrat and Chronicle

If you’ve purchased a video game through GameStop online, you may be eligible to receive a payment or store credit through a recent $4.5 million class action lawsuit settlement with the gaming company.
The lawsuit, Alejandro Aldana and Scott Gallie v. GameStop, Inc., was filed in the Supreme Court of the State of New York in Kings County by customers who allege their personal identifiable information was disclosed to Facebook by the company through the Facebook Tracking Pixel without consent, which is in violation of the video Privacy Protection Act, according to the settlement website.
GameStop denies it violated any law but has agreed to the settlement “to avoid uncertainties and expenses associated with continuing the case,” according to the settlement website. The settlement also requires the company to stop using the Facebook Tracking Pixel on any of its website pages that capture the title of a purchased video game containing content generally covered by the Privacy Protection Act.
Here’s what New Yorkers should know about the settlement.
You might be.
If you purchased a video game from the GameStop website between Aug. 18, 2020 and April 17, 2025, were a Facebook member and maintained a public Facebook profile using your actual name, you could be eligible to receive a payment, the settlement website says.
If you’ve received an email notice, you can submit an online claim using the unique ID provided in the email by visiting gamestopvppasettlement.com/Home/SubmitClaim. If not, you can send in a paper claim through the mail. You can also choose to opt out or object to the settlement.
If you want to file a claim, you’ll have to do so by Aug. 15, 2025.
If the settlement is approved and you submit a valid claim, you could receive either a cash payment of up to $5 or a voucher of up to $10 to use on GameStop’s website, the settlement website states.
There’s a final approval hearing currently scheduled for Aug. 15 to decide whether the settlement will be approved. From there, the decision may be appealed but if not, you’ll receive a cash payment through your choice of Zelle, PayPal or Venmo after 45 days.
If you chose the voucher option, that’ll be available in your GameStop account 45 days after the approval. If you don’t have an account, you can create a free one and the voucher is only good for a year after it’s issued.
