Deadline expired 5 days ago ― You may have lost $5000 over data breach settlement – Coaches Database
The deadline to file a claim to be part of the Ingo Money $1.5 million data breach settlement expired just five days ago, potentially costing affected individuals up to $5,000 each. As per the class action settlement, those who had their sensitive data compromised during a cybersecurity breach were notified. Since the claim submission deadline was set for May 15, 2025, eligible individuals who missed this window for submitting claims, will no longer receive financial compensation, credit monitoring, and the identity theft protection that has been included in the agreement.
Ingo Money, a financial technology company known for mobile check cashing and digital payment services, faced hot water after being accused of failing to ensure sufficient data security measures, leading to the exposure of consumers’ personal data. Ingo Money has not admitted to any wrongdoing but has agreed to pay more than $1.5 million to settle the lawsuit. Ingo Money will contribute an additional $350,000 to strengthen its data protection practices.
Ingo Money’s data breach was reported to have revealed sensitive information including names, Social Security numbers, financial account details, and driver’s license numbers exposed. The breach led to a class action lawsuit filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
According to the lawsuit, Ingo Money violated state laws by not preventing the breach and protecting user data. All affected individuals received a notice from the company, informing them about their private information had been accessed during the November 2023 cyberattack. Ingo Money has not admitted to any wrongdoing but has agreed to a settlement agreement.
As per the settlement agreement, compensation for class action members who can prove financial loss resulted from the breach would receive a maximum payout of $5,000 per person. For the claims, documentation such as receipts, bank statements, or records of expenses like credit monitoring services and fees resulting from the incident was required. Claimants who did not submit proof of loss would be deemed eligible for a smaller pro rata amount.
While financial compensation is on offer, class members who managed to valid claims before the deadline were entitled to three years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services. This coverage included up to $1 million in insurance for identity theft-related incidents.
The two main benefits offered to claimants were:
On June 17,2025, would be the financial approval hearing. After that all claimants should receive a share of the payment provided that they successfully submitted their claims by the May 15, 2025. The window for opting out of the settlement was also April 15, 2025. Another class action settlement that is making waves is the new MGM International Resorts data breach settlement.
Since the claim deadline has passed, eligible recipients who did not take action have forfeited their chance to receive any compensation or protective services related to the breach. For those who filed on time, the next step would be to wait for the court’s final approval in June.
Ingo Money’s attempt to rectify damages caused by the data breach and to tighten up security shows the company is ensuring that no such data breaches occur again that could lead to consumer information being compromised. Citizens who missed filing a claim for this data breach settlement could still stand a chance of filing a claim for the Enzo Biochem data breach settlement if they are deemed eligible.
