Time has changed for many of you, though not for me. All around the United States of America, Daylight Savings Time has ended, clocks have shifted. Here in Arizona, we stick with the same time all year round. It is the shifting of time all around us that is unsettling. It would be easier to stop this clock-shifting altogether, no?
For the time being, we will continue every few months with this temporal malpractice. And we’ll solve this Wordle!

Well, my guessing game started out fire today and then collapsed into tragedy. PEARL left me with just 19 possible solutions, and at this point I probably should have guessed all new letters but I thought it would be funny if the answer was SLATE and only cut my options to 9. BLADE was close, but not close enough. I went with BLAME, the only other word I’d come up with at this point, but the Wordle was BLAZE and I walked away at a whopping 5 guesses. Ouch!

I get -1 for guessing in five and -1 for losing to the Bot, who took four tries today. -2 hurts!
The word blaze comes from Old English blæse, meaning a torch or flame, and has Germanic roots, including the Old Norse blesi, meaning a bright mark. It likely traces back to the Proto-Indo-European root bhel-, meaning “to shine” or “to burn,” evolving in English to mean a bright flame or intense brilliance.
