“Everything I needed to know about getting Laid Off, I learned from getting divorced.” I often share this on my podcast #LaidOffLifeOn and with clients because it holds so much truth. Both my divorce and being laid off were tough, but the resilience I built through my divorce gave me the mental tools to navigate job loss with greater clarity, making it easier to move forward. After being let go, I took an honest assessment of what I wanted, what I needed, and what was non-negotiable for the next stage of my career. While my criteria have evolved over time, having that clarity from the start helped me stay focused and intentional in choosing the opportunities and paths I pursued. One of the first things I do with clients is a career criteria assessment. Knowing what you want, where you can flex, and what’s non-negotiable is key to a successful job search. With this clarity, clients make confident decisions and pursue roles that truly align with their values and goals. Clarity and clear criteria for decision-making were lessons I learned through my divorce. My list of non-negotiables for my next relationship was typed in my iPhone during a sleepless night. While I still kissed a few frogs, that list gave me certainty when I found the one. Yesterday we celebrated our two-year anniversary, reminding me again how powerful clarity and intention are when making life and career decisions. Do you have clear criteria for your life or career decisions? I Whether you’re navigating a career transition or a personal milestone, clarity can be a game-changer. I’d love to help you find yours! #supportnetworks #lifebydesign #careercriteria #lifeon

Love this Kelsey. I think a lot of people ‘wing it’ through life without clearly defining their non-negotiables. It is much easier to cross your own boundaries when they aren’t clearly articulated.

If you’re thinking about chucking it all in and trying something new this year, here’s three things you can do to help your process: 1. Work out why you’re really unhappy If you’re unhappy at home, a new job won’t help. If you’re unhappy at work, a divorce won’t fix it. Sometimes we change the easiest thing, to avoid changing the actual thing. 2. Try a small experiment If you think you want to quit your professional job to start a service business, try a side hustle. If you think you want to leave your marriage, try a week’s break. If you think you want to become an artist or a writer, try completing a small project and seeing how it feels. 3. Tell people If you keep your uncertainty and discontent inside, you’ll eventually convert it into distance and resentment. Try talking about what you’re thinking and feeling with your partner, friends, kids or workmates, and see what they’ve got to say. It’s hard to make sense of your thoughts alone, so try thinking out loud and with others instead. #notanmba #change #careerplanning

Coach for Parents Navigating Divorce & Co-Parenting /// Do it in a way you’re proud of. Look back on this chapter and say “Dang! That was hard and I rocked it.” /// 🎙 Podcast Host @ Welcome to the Other Side
What if boredom could help you during your divorce? Sounds strange, right? But hear me out—those “blah” moments might be the perfect time for new ideas to pop up. When you let yourself be bored, your brain has room to wander, connect new dots, and come up with creative solutions. Think of it like hitting the reset button. When your mind isn’t distracted, it can drift and explore. What thoughts come up when you let yourself zone out on a walk (without listening to music or a podcast)? What ideas pop into your head when you’re folding laundry (without a show in the background or a show in your ear)? What do you realize when you sit in traffic (without an audiobook playing or calling your sister to chat)? You might just find the answer you’ve been looking for– like that creative way to handle Christmas Vacation or how to respond to your ex’s latest triggering text. Ironically, I’m recommending a book to help you embrace boredom—Bored and Brilliant by Manoush Zomorodi (@manoushz). It’s a great read that shows how boredom can actually boost your creativity and help you solve problems. (I know, reading to learn how to be bored sounds funny, but trust me, it works!) 👉 Go get bored! 😁 #divorce #coparenting

Listening back to this conversation I had with Daniel Stillman made me think “I need more conversations like this in my life.” What a pleasure. Maybe it has something to do with Daniel being an expert in conversation design. 🙂 We went to some new places as we talked–considered some new ideas and reconsidered some old ones. I hope listening to it will enrich your day as much as it did mine. From the podcast intro: “On a micro-scale, Dr. Suz’s book tells the story of rethinking or re-designing the “default track” for a very, very common conversation – Divorce. When that word gets said out loud, people find lawyers, put up a shield, and start digging trenches. There is a better way! It takes effort to deeply empathize with your “opponent” in a difficult conversation. It takes patience and imagination to collaborate with your “opponent” to design a win-win scenario. But the default design for divorce doesn’t usually create ideal outcomes…just conventional ones. It’s possible to create something better than you can imagine if you create the space for a transformational conversation. Dr. Suz helps break down how “design” in these situations just means really understanding the REAL problem we’re solving and what our IDEAL outcome really could look like… BEFORE we jump to solutions.” #podcast #conversationfactory #goodtalk #creativeproblemsolving https://lnkd.in/ef6EwKeV

New Episode Alert 💫 In Episode 8 of Reset Diaries, I sat down with Hiu-Yu Vanessa C. to explore how divorce can serve as a springboard to a new life. Divorce and separation are among the most significant life stressors, trailing only behind death of a spouse. They impact not only personal lives but also have a huge effect on the workplace. According to a Harvard Business Review study, divorces cost American businesses a staggering $150 billion annually. Some key things we discussed- ✅ ✅ Individuality- Maintaining your individuality in a relationship is crucial. So, engaging in personal interests and activities that are independent of your spouse are a must. And the same goes for friendships, it’s essential to have your own set of friends and support network. You don’t have to mix all your friends with your spouse. ✅ ✅ Supportive Work Environment- Employers and teams need to be more open and supportive. Instead of holding judgments, hold space in your hearts, allowing people to be human at work. This life status change can be captured well in time, and employers should provide mental health support and flexible policies to help employees navigate the challenges of divorce. This not only helps the individual but also mitigates the broader impact on the business. ✅ ✅ Embrace Personal Growth- Transitioning from feeling lonely to embracing solitude takes time, but it can be a powerful period for growth. Start with a checklist of basics- eat well, sleep well, meditate, and ensure you have some daily movement. If you face challenges in maintaining these habits, lean on friends and invest in experts like therapists or coaches. They can guide you towards your goals more effectively. Let’s support each other through life’s ups and downs. Tune in to this insightful episode and join the conversation on how to navigate life post-divorce! Changing careers could feel like a divorce. Weird comparison, right?😁😁 If you have ever changed career path atleast once, you might just relate. It could feel like a loss, freedom, relief, confusion, all at the same time. Divorce could happen for a lot of reasons like 📌 Irreconcilable differences 📌 Abuse 📌 Change in taste and interests 📌 Boredom 📌 Desire for more … and lots more. A career change could also happen for same or similar reasons. Some divorce can be tragic and messy, others can be well calculated and peaceful. Same with leaving one career for another. One underlying fact with a divorce is that your life never remains the same afterwards because you get to grow emotionally with the experiences you gained from the now past relationship. Going forward, you take all the experinces you have garnered over the years and seek to do and be better with your choices. Same applies to career changes. If you have found yourself at the verge of a career change or you have just switched careers, do not regret what you left behind. Instead let the experinces guide you in your new path. Do not treat your former career path as a loss. Instead use it as a stepping stone. I hope this helps someone😊😊 #leadership #growth #motivation

CEO & Founder of LEVEL Connections, two decades in the Matchmaking industry, Relatability Keynote Speaker, Communication & Relationship Expert
There is no such thing as “getting back out there”. This goes for career and love. When my matchmaking & coaching clients come to me seeking partnership after a divorce, a breakup, or the loss of a spouse, the #1 thing they fear is the idea of getting back out there. This same fear exists when someone considers leaving their current job or company. The concept of starting over can be paralyzing. But, here’s the good news: We never really start again. We keep moving. There is no “getting back out there”. We’re already there. We’re breathing and living our experiences. Every day. There is only the continuation of our education, experience, and emotional growth. Talking about something as vast and scary as “out there” can make anyone shrink in fear. Change your language and watch your confidence grow. When you leap into what feels like the unknown, tap into the wisdom you gained in your previous experience. It’s the indivisible net that prevents you from falling. This is simply the next chapter of your book. Turn the page.
