Applied Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence Technology Platform

I think it is a good question to address as it is not the first time I hear it asked.
The short version:
Robotic Process Automation allows you to automate some simple,  routine tasks that are mostly structured, rigid, and tedious to do. RPA focuses on “Doing” and “replacing”.
Artificial intelligence allows you to put your minds into work by allowing the intelligence to make judgment calls that go beyond basic rule-based decision making. AI focuses on “Thinking”
A longer answer:
Robotic process automation (or RPA) is an emerging form of clerical process automation technology based on the notion of software robots or artificial intelligence (AI) workers. The easiest way to describe RPA is as software that mimics human behaviour
Artificial intelligence (AI), on the other hand, is an umbrella term for a machine’s ability to imitate a human’s way of sensing things, make deductions and communicate. field of computer science dedicated to solving problems that otherwise require human intelligence—for example, pattern recognition, learning, and generalization.
AI solutions often make use of the methods of machine learning. A machine can, for instance, be taught to identify phenomena with the help of mathematical and statistical methods.
One of the key differences between RPA and AI / ML is that RPA solutions are limited to handling rule-based work and need digitized and structured inputs. Many organization, however, have to deal with judgment-based processes and unstructured inputs.
. AI is the technology that will bring new competitive advantage to enterprises, whereas Robotic Process Automation is an application of technology that is meant to be created by business logic and structural inputs. These are aimed at automating the business processes. RPA can replace human routine work that is boring, repetitive, and rigid. These are the tasks that most human beings would find boring. Using the RPA tools, a company is able to configure the software or a robot to interpret the application for processing a transaction, triggering responses and communicating with the digital systems.
There are certain criteria that I would use before I recommend RPA to my clients: 1) the work that the enterprise wants to replace is fairly routine with not many flexibilities 2) the routine work is being done by more than 2 humans to justify the cost to create an RPA 3) you require data from multiple legacy systems that are hard to integrate.
I am not saying the above 3 points are the minimum requirement for an RPA project, but having the above points checked will increase the value of the RPA.
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) technology can reduce human error, staff cost, and allow you to put the human resources in better use. RPA Bots are low cost and easy to implement with some simple programming skills with popular RPA tools. They do not require any custom software or deep system integrations. The RPA implementations in which 15 to 20 steps may be automated are a part of the value chain known as intelligent automation.
RPA has the potential to eliminate routine jobs, such as filling in a form, scraping the website, and basic data movements across legacy systems. If RPA is implemented successfully, and replace many manual work, it also will mean a lot of workers will need to be retained into new roles. So if RPA is implemented successfully and HR can’t retrain workers fast enough, it could result in job loss.
AI is different:
The AI technologies are excellent in capturing information such as:

The biggest drawback of RPA is that someone or something needs to tell it what to do. RPA cannot make decisions on its own. For example, it cannot decide which supplier is the most cost-effective to re-order from; that intelligence needs to come from a human or AI.
This is where AI comes back into action!

Hi Jessica, I agree 100% with you. That’s the limitation of RPA. Thanks for sharing!
