Carrot or stick to move the industry? With a very long time to change, we need many solutions to reach net zero. 💡 One of them is carbon stored in materials. I met Allison Dring CEO of Made of Air while on my quest to meet women leaders in climate tech. What fascinated me is how biogas waste is a feedstock for their product which permanently locks the carbon in eg. building panels, and can be accounted for as carbon credits. Spot the #circularity and the 🥕 ? When discussing the hurdles for the decarbonization of industrial supply chains, it is essentially about risk-taking spread across the players; while I’m of the view that it boils down to leadership and mindset. Luckily, we are seeing a slice of manufacturers willing to pay a premium for more sustainable materials. 👀 The quest for learning continues: I am diving into system-level challenges and dynamics in the fields of #materialscience and #AgTech, to compare + transfer learnings from our work in H2 and energy. 👉 Let’s chat or tag a Founder or Leader active in those spaces. Thanks again Allison for your time and leadership! 💪💚

the folks at Materials Nexus, if you haven’t caught up with Jonathan Bean recently? 🙂

Always happy to pick up our chat on female climate leaders again Vaitea Cowan, our Women In Green Hydrogen initiative certainly made a difference. Less “hydrogen manels” these days. Next challenge? What about engaging investors with female climate leaders… and equalising government/institutional funding across the vast gender divide built up in tech today.
Entrepreneurship. Purpose. Nurture Capital
Would love to meet the company and its team when I’m in Berlin to understand tech, growth and funsing journey!

It was such a pleasure to connect Vaitea Cowan! We have so many systemic challenges in this business and so much to fight for. Looking forward to continuing the conversation

the journey of engineering biology to replace petrochemicals and fossil fuels is not for the faint-hearted It’s a battlefield– marked by the ruins of ambitious companies that dared to dream big over the last decade Yet, their legacy is not one of failure, but of setting the stage for a sustainable revolution 💪 In the past, sustainable innovation has not been able to compete, to disrupt the efficiency and competitive cost of Big Chemicals! However, the tides are changing. An unyielding demand for sustainability from the end consumer, companies are focused on creating better products and solutions. Gives a clear message: Adapt or be left behind The next 5 to 10 years are critical They hold the promise of the new bio-industrial revolution Companies are emerging that can Meet the global cry for sustainability and innovation 🌎 I’m so hopeful that this sector is going to deliver! ‘Greening of materials is vastly underestimated and is currently only 1% complete.’ Michiel Scheffer Amidst all the buzz about AI at TNW, A crucial discussion on sustainability caught my attention, specifically focusing on achieving carbon neutrality. Here are some key takeaways of the conversation with Thomas Röhrl, Lubomila Jordanova, Jörg Kemna, Michiel Scheffer guided by Andrea Hak: 🏗 Building a European market for scaling up: To move beyond the R&D phase, we need a supportive ecosystem. The infrastructure for scaling up hardware is currently missing. 💶 Massive investment needed: To meet our climate goals by 2030, we require an investment of 9.2 miljard dollar yearly. 🔍 Greening of materials is underestimated: While achieving carbon neutrality is a step in the right direction, we’re not there. Especially material innovation is underestimated. Let’s innovate, invest, and collaborate to drive material innovation and reach our carbon neutrality goals! I contribute by bringing a fossil-free flexible foam to the market… How do you contribute? 🌱 Decoupling Growth from Greenhouse Gas Emissions 🌍 During our journey at PolySense, we noticed an important fact that challenges the traditional belief: sustainable production doesn’t have to mean producing less. Too often, leaders in manufacuring correlate environmental responsibility with reduced revenue. It is time to decouple growth from your sustainability impact. At the intersection of technology and sustainability, lies the potential to not only lower your environmental footprint but also drive unprecedented growth in your company. Innovation in production processes can result in both waste reducuction and lower consumption of utilities. This insight finally gains momentum as the UN, at COP28, launches a non-profit dedicated to developing AI-powered solutions for climate action in developing countries. However, it is crucial that the final text includes phasing out fossil fuel consumption. Great to brainstorm with the PolySense team about the crucial link between technology and sustainability! #PolySense #SustainableIntelligence
