Sports Business Awards nominees revealed – Sports Business Journal
Who had the best year in sports business?
Sports Business Journal is revealing the 90 nominees for the 17th annual Sports Business Awards, recognizing excellence over the past year. There are some themes that have emerged — a lot of love for MLS, MLB and NASCAR. Lionel Messi’s signing with Inter Miami led to a number of nominations, including Deal of the Year; Inter Miami for Team of the Year, Jorge Mas for Executive of the Year and Major League Soccer for League of the Year. MLB is up for League of the Year, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is up for Executive of the Year and the World Baseball Classic is up for Event of the Year. NASCAR also had a big year, with nominations for League of the Year, Deal of the Year for its seven-year media rights deals with Fox Sports, NBC Sports, Prime Video and TNT Sports and Event of the Year for the new NASCAR Chicago Street Race. We will honor The McLendon Foundation with our Celebration of Service Award and Arthur M. Blank with our Lifetime Achievement Award.
Winners will be announced May 22 at the New York Marriott Marquis Times Square.

On this week’s pod, our Big Get is CBS Sports college basketball analyst Jay Wright. The NCAA Championship-winning coach shares his insight with SBJ’s Austin Karp on key hoops issues and why being well dressed is an important part of his success. Also on the show, Poynter Institute senior writer Tom Jones shares who he has up and who is down in sports media. Later, SBJ’s Ben Portnoy talks the latest on ESPN’s CFP extension and who CBS, TNT Sports and ESPN need to make deep runs in the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments.
